Description:
Changes to applications and database schemas can be required for many reasons however they can often be complex and error prone. By minimizing or eliminating manual tasks and automating the change management process, organizations can implement schema updates with ease and accuracy.

IBM Technology Brief Sample

Designed to help DBAs improve productivity, reliability and accuracy, Data Studio Administrator delivers automated capabilities that support the change management process, including defining change specifications, deploying the changes and enabling audits.

First, the change specification process allows DBAs to define the set of changes that must be applied to a database. This process involves creating models of the database that must change, modeling the database changes, analyzing the impact of the changes and generating the operations necessary to implement the changes against the database. These changes can include extended alters, as needed to drop and recreate tables.

Data Studio Administrator also provides automated forward and reverse schema engineering among the models, the database and the DDL. DBAs can perform impact analysis to visualize related or dependent objects and automatically generate DDL needed to change the database. The DDL can be viewed, edited and validated before the change is deployed.
